Course details →Understanding apprenticeships
An apprenticeship combines paid employment with training towards the knowledge, skills and behaviours of an approved occupational standard.
You are employed in a suitable role, earn a wage and receive employee rights including paid holiday.
Your employer provides commercial experience, supervision and opportunities to apply new skills.
Protected training time develops the occupational knowledge, practical skill and professional behaviours in your standard.
Your progress is reviewed throughout the programme before the final assessment arrangements for your standard.
English and maths support
You may still be able to start an apprenticeship. HeadHunters will review the qualifications and evidence you already hold, then explain any Functional Skills support available through your training plan.
Read the current government guidance ↗If you do not already hold accepted equivalents, English and maths qualifications are required for completion and funded up to an approved Level 2.
English and maths study can be funded when an accepted equivalent is not already held and the employer agrees that it belongs in the training plan.
Reasonable adjustments and specific flexibilities may apply following an evidence-based assessment of learning needs.
HeadHunters qualification partner
HeadHunters has selected VTCT Skills for its regulated hairdressing and barbering qualification routes. The exact qualification, registration status, funding eligibility and assessment arrangements are confirmed with every learner before enrolment.

How it works
Build regular commercial experience with your employer.
Develop knowledge and practical skill with specialist educators.
Agree priorities, review evidence and plan your next stage with your employer and educator.
The government supported routes are Hairdressing Level 2, Hairdressing Level 3 and Barbering Level 2. The exact standard, VTCT Skills qualification, funding and assessment arrangements are confirmed before enrolment. Barbering Level 3 is offered only as a privately funded qualification.
From enquiry to enrolment
Every apprenticeship depends on a suitable job, an eligible learner, an agreed training plan and confirmation that the chosen standard is right for the role.
Tell the Academy whether you are a prospective apprentice, an existing employee or an employer looking to recruit.
HeadHunters reviews the job, prior learning, residency and funding information needed for an appropriate route.
The employer, learner and training team confirm responsibilities, delivery, support and the applicable standard.
Training starts only when employment, enrolment, qualification registration and assessment arrangements are in place.
