Understanding apprenticeships

A REAL JOB.
STRUCTURED TRAINING.

An apprenticeship combines paid employment with training towards the knowledge, skills and behaviours of an approved occupational standard.

01

EMPLOYMENT

You are employed in a suitable role, earn a wage and receive employee rights including paid holiday.

02

WORKPLACE LEARNING

Your employer provides commercial experience, supervision and opportunities to apply new skills.

03

ACADEMY TRAINING

Protected training time develops the occupational knowledge, practical skill and professional behaviours in your standard.

04

ASSESSMENT

Your progress is reviewed throughout the programme before the final assessment arrangements for your standard.

English and maths support

NO GCSE RESULT?
LET’S CHECK YOUR ROUTE.

You may still be able to start an apprenticeship. HeadHunters will review the qualifications and evidence you already hold, then explain any Functional Skills support available through your training plan.

Read the current government guidance ↗
16 TO 18

If you do not already hold accepted equivalents, English and maths qualifications are required for completion and funded up to an approved Level 2.

AGE 19+

English and maths study can be funded when an accepted equivalent is not already held and the employer agrees that it belongs in the training plan.

INDIVIDUAL SUPPORT

Reasonable adjustments and specific flexibilities may apply following an evidence-based assessment of learning needs.

From enquiry to enrolment

WHAT HAPPENS
NEXT?

Every apprenticeship depends on a suitable job, an eligible learner, an agreed training plan and confirmation that the chosen standard is right for the role.

01

START A CONVERSATION

Tell the Academy whether you are a prospective apprentice, an existing employee or an employer looking to recruit.

02

CHECK THE ROLE AND ELIGIBILITY

HeadHunters reviews the job, prior learning, residency and funding information needed for an appropriate route.

03

AGREE THE TRAINING PLAN

The employer, learner and training team confirm responsibilities, delivery, support and the applicable standard.

04

BEGIN WITH CLEAR EXPECTATIONS

Training starts only when employment, enrolment, qualification registration and assessment arrangements are in place.
